Permanent teeth that have been knocked out need immediate attention. Our Tribeca children's dentist, Dr. Dikansky, will diligently work to restore avulsed (knocked out) permanent teeth, unless irreparable damage has been caused to the tooth. If your child has an avulsed tooth, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Call us immediately.
  2. Do not touch the roots of the tooth; handle by the crown only.
  3. Rinse dirt from the tooth, but don't scrub or scrape.
  4. Keep the tooth wet! Moisture is critical!
a•  If your child is old enough to hold the tooth in its original socket or cheek pouch while you're enroute to our office, it can help maintain the tooth's integrity.
b•  If your child is too young to do this, submerge the tooth in a glass of milk or saliva.
  5. Get to our office immediately. If you aren't able to contact us, go to the emergency room.
